Giant duodenal ulcer: the hepatic intra-arterial chemotherapy variant.

چکیده
Giant duodenal ulcers are extensive ulcers, more than 2.5 cm in diameter, that involve a large portion of the duodenal bulb. These atypical duodenal ulcers create serious problems to the patient and the physician, are frequently complicated by bleeding and penetration, and have a high mortality rate. Most of the reported cases were classified as a severe variant of the common peptic ulcer disease, others were associated with the Zollinger Ellison syndrome. We report here four patients with giant duodenal ulcers but with a different and definitive aetiology: hepatic intra-arterial chemotherapy infusion for liver metastase or primary hepatocellular carcinoma.

A 67-year-old diabetic man was emergently hospitalized in our department because of a huge duodenal ulcer without visible vessels. Emergent angiography showed extravasation of contrast media from a duodenal bra...

Twenty-five cases of benign giant duodenal ulcer have been studied. In every case a barium meal examination showed an ulcer crater with a radiographic diameter of at least 2 centimetres. Abdominal pain was the commonest symptom but less than half of the patients had had pain characteristic of chronic peptic ulcer. Haemorrhage from the ulcer occurred in a large majority of them. The radiological...
متن کاملCysto-duodenal fistula: an unusual complication of a nonparasitic hepatic cyst.
Increasing use of radiological imaging modalities has resulted in the detection of nonparasitic hepatic cysts in 1%–5% of the general population, however, complicated nonparasitic hepatic cysts are exceedingly rare [1–4]. Here, we present a unique case of a hepatic cysto-duodenal fistula with the intracystic endoscopic findings. A 70-year-old man was admitted for postprandial abdominal discomfo...
